TRENTON - In the final stretch of this critical election, the New Jersey Republican State Committee is reminding voters about Jon Corzine's record of complete failure as Governor. In this campaign, Governor Corzine has promised to double down on the failed policies of his first term and spend the next four years running New Jersey further into the ground. New Jersey can't afford another four years of Governor Corzine's failure, lost jobs, and high taxes.
Over the next 10 days, we present 10 ways Governor Corzine has failed New Jersey:
#10: Corzine Sold Out New Jersey Taxpayers For A Photo-Op
". . . the governor caved."
(Editorial, "Republicans' furlough criticism right on," Daily Record, 06/07/09)
Ahead of a June 2009 visit from Vice President Joe Biden, Jon Corzine caved in contract negotiations with the Communications Workers of America, sacrificing the long-term good of New Jersey for a quick photo-op to put on his campaign website.
"Gov. Corzine met CWA union negotiators and was handed his head, again. For a guy presented as a Wall Street wizard, he looks more like Sesame Street, settling for less than he said the state needed to avoid a bigger financial crisis. Worse, the giveaway appeared to have been rushed to keep the union from picketing when Vice President Joe Biden visited." ("Corzine comes up short again in union talks," Asbury Park Press, 6/7/09)
The Governor caved to labor demands, including a pledge of no layoffs through 2010, to stave off the politically-embarrassing specter of a labor protest and picket line the Vice President would have had to cross. Governor Corzine put his political needs above the interests of taxpayers, adding insult to the injurious $1.2 billion tax hike imposed on New Jerseyans earlier in the month.
"Gov. Jon S. Corzine's reputation as a supposed financial wizard is officially dead. So is any notion that the New Jersey taxpayer is even close to a mild concern of his." (Editorial, "Corzine crumbles to state unions on furlough deal that's far too weak," Home News Tribune, 06/07/09)
"Here's the question for Corzine: Are his constituents the people of New Jersey or the members of the CWA?" (Editorial, "Corzine cut sweet deal with CWA," Press of Atlantic City, 06/07/09)
